Dryer Vent Cleaning

How often should you have your dryer vent cleaned? You might be surprised to hear that your dryer vent needs to be cleaned out at least once a year. We’re not talking about the lint trap, that needs to be cleaned off after each load has finished drying. This is the dryer vent behind your dryer. It is possible to clean and maintain some parts of the dryer vent yourself (like the tailpipe), but you’ll need our professional cleaning service for the part of your dryer’s venting system that runs through your walls.

Why is it so important to have the dryer vent cleaned out?

First of all, it’s a fire hazard. The buildup of lint and dust in your dryer duct can easily cause a fire. In fact, it’s one of the most common causes of house fires. Sadly, these house fires lead to millions of dollars of property loss annually. This is a preventable problem when we come out and clean your dryer vent system regularly. We don’t share this to frighten you; we want you to understand how serious it is and how easy it is to take care of.

Secondly, as with most systems or machines, your dryer will not function at peak efficiency without clear and clean ventilation. Buildup leads to  overheating or a lack of heat, damp clothes, and higher energy costs from running the dryer longer. It can also wear down your dryer faster. When we come clean your dryer vent, you can expect better heat distribution in the dryer and faster drying times.

Doesn’t cleaning the lint trap prevent buildup?

Yes and no. It’s helpful, but not helpful enough. 70% (or more) of the lint and debris is still able to get into your vent and cause build up or blockages. Keep cleaning the lint trap after each load, but let us clean the dryer vent for you at a minimum of once a year.

Have you ever pulled a load of clothes out of the dryer only to find that they were super hot and still damp? That’s a pretty good indication of a dryer vent issue or blockage. If you don’t remember the last time you had your dryer vent cleaned and serviced, call us so we can schedule your vent cleaning. If you don’t think you’ve ever had the vent cleaned, you can’t afford to wait any longer! Call us right away!
